Food Safety and Traceability
The produce industry has many intricacies that make it one of the toughest businesses to be in today, yet the rewards of successfully navigating those intricacies are even sweeter. Factors like climate control, food safety, traceability – to name a few – are some of the daily, ever-changing concerns that must be balanced with the simple yet essential tasks of maintaining and growing a company. Smart third party logistics partnerships are a vital component of this. At Sarnia Produce, both food safety and traceability are vital important aspects within our company. We want to ensure our customers receive the highest grade quality product with the safest standards. We work diligently with the utmost reputable suppliers and growers and have built strong relationships with them. This confidence is passed on to our customers allowing them to purchase in complete trust.
Our company has implemented the most modern, state of the art inventory software (PICS) which is specifically designed for the produce industry. This software allows us to monitor all incoming and outgoing product with precise accuracy. We incorporate a lot system which will track product origin relating to supplier and country. Sarnia Produce also remains in frequent contact with the CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) and is informed of any produce recalls. In case of a re-call the product can be quickly tracked through our software and its distribution channels and the customer will be notified immediately. All affected product will be replaced at no cost to the customer. Our company is a member of Can-Trace (in association with the Canadian Produce Marketing Association) and has implemented a traceability system in accordance to the Canadian Food Traceability Data Standard (CFTDS).
